Analyst price targets by year of issue, 2008 to 2025, each scored on whether the stock reached it. Of the targets published in 2020, 80.2% were reached within twelve months. Of those published in 2022, 49.0% were. 150K targets in all, scored the same way.
The set is the one used in how often analyst price targets get hit: US stocks in the S&P 500 or Nasdaq-100 with no split in the record, plus Canadian and German stocks, scored to 7 September 2026. Targets issued after 7 September 2025 are left out, so every target had at least a year. The 57 targets from 2005 to 2007 are left out of the year tables. Before 2013 each year holds fewer than 1,000 targets, all on US stocks. Those years are in the table and the chart, and the text leans on 2013 onward.
Share reached within a year, by year of issue
The later years have also had less time to reach “any time”. A 2025 target had about 12 to 20 months by the cutoff. A 2013 target had more than a decade. The twelve month share gives every year the same clock, and on that measure 2020 sits highest at 80.2% and 2022 lowest at 49.0%.
2015 and 2018 also sit low, at 56.1% and 57.7%. Reached targets from those two years took a median of 271 and 203.5 days, against 109 for 2017 and 113 for 2019.

Median distance is the target against the close on the day, so +13% means the median target sat 13% above the price. It stayed between 11% and 14% in most years from 2013. 2022 is the exception at +17.6%.
Targets above the price and below it
Most targets sit above the price, between 83.5% and 88.6% in each year from 2013. The two groups do not move together. In 2020, 84.7% of targets above the price were reached within a year, against 57.0% of targets below it. In 2022 it went the other way, 46.8% above and 65.1% below, as it did in six other years since 2013.

All 123 PayPal targets from 2020 were reached within a year. Of the 146 from 2022, 28 were reached by September 2026. The 2023 targets show the gap between the two clocks: 31.0% within a year, 73.5% by the cutoff. The per-stock file carries each of those rows with its analyst, date and days to target.
Method
A target counts as reached when the stock’s intraday high (low, for a target below the price) touched it on the issue day or any later trading day up to 7 September 2026. Direction is the target against the close on the issue date. “Within 12 months” counts targets reached within 365 calendar days of issue. “Any time” has no limit, so it depends on how long each year’s targets have had. Distance is the implied move column in each file. Where one analyst published the same target on the same stock on the same day more than once, it counts once.
The US group holds 369 stocks in the S&P 500 or Nasdaq-100 today with no split in the record, which leaves out companies that dropped out of those indexes or delisted. Canadian (583 stocks) and German (184) prices are split-adjusted. Year is the calendar year of the issue date.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get one stock’s targets by year?
Yes. The $29 file for a stock holds every target with its date, so a year filter in Excel gives the same cut. PayPal’s file has 129 rows from 2021 and 146 from 2022.
